Employer engagement

With strong backing from employers, schools, colleges and universities, SHD is great news for UK plc.

It's also a major boost to the government objective to equip young people with the right skills that will meet the needs of the economy well into the future. Employers have been involved with SHD, getting on board at the earliest stages of development.

Strong partnership between many organisations that share a common vision to bring together the children and young people's, health, community justice and adult social care workforces into one qualification has brought us this far.

But there is still more work to be done and we are looking for more employers across the four sectors to get involved. SHD will be most effective when it is delivered in partnership with consortia of employers working closely with schools and colleges in their local area.

Whatever the size of your organisation, whether it's from the public, private or voluntary sector, there are many ways it could play a part in educating young people in the local area.

Why it makes sense to be involved

The Skills Academy for Health in the East Midlands has collected information from employers in the health sector and mapped this to the Diploma in Society, Health and Development (SHD) curriculum. The 'Health Box' has been developed by Skills for Health as a resource to assist teachers and lecturers to deliver this Diploma in the East Midlands.
